the hidden Alps
This morning after saying good-bye to the family Reetz we were once again on the road headed south towards Basel where we had to stop at the boarder to get a vignette for the car . It rained most of the day so most of the scenery is fogged in .Kim was busy taking many photos of the Alps hidden behind clouds . We stopped at the Gotthard reststatte where we ate a hardy lunch with me drinking alcohol-free beer. we saw the mountain poke through the clouds once. Instead of taking the 17 km tunnel through the mountain we decided upon taking the Gotthardpass, the road was very serpentine but the views that we could see were awesome even though we couldn't see any distance . At the top of the pass there was a gasthaus that would of been nice to stop at if it wasn't so sopped in ,I think Kim was happy about this latter point as we descended in to the valley below because she could not see how steep it was .it cleared up little as we wound our way towards Italy ,Kim was excited as we approached the land she has always dreamed of visiting , but felt a little let down when there was little border control and we did not have to stop . A short time later we arrived in Lainate Italy and checked into the Golf hotel where we are relaxing after a pleasant dinner of me having lamb and her veal and a excellent dessert of parfait ice cream . The room is big enough despite the narrow doors.
