A round roundabouts
that was going to be the title but it should also include tunnels and switchbacks . We started the day with a good breakfast ,then we were off to the fortress after seeing it last night it would be a shame not go check it out. It had a great view of the ocean channel, harbour and the canal we were able go in and scramble ( as much as one my size can scramble) all over it , got to peek into a few areas alas when you choose to travel in the off season some of the attractions are closed as it was with the museum that day but I found it interesting just the same. After catching our breath at the car we were off to Degernes ,got our pictures by the town sign we went to check out the Degernes pub but the posted hours said it didn't open til much later and the cafe /gas station attached to it appear to be out of business so that was a bit of a bummer. So undaunted we decided to push on to Stord, we set the navigator for Oslo then Stord so it would not direct us To a ferry . It seemed we went through a hundred roundabouts all intersections had them didn't see a stop sign or lights until Oslo. And because I didn't take Oslo off of the navigator it took me right downtown (opps) even though I saw the street signs for the hwy we wanted brain fart I followed the machine through several roundabouts to down town. Then it went to the Stord leg of the trip we were off through all those roundabouts again . Once back on the E18 westward bound it was climb and descend similar to the crows nest pass but not as high at first until we started to hit the tunnels can't say how many but quite a few we will try to keep track tomorrow on our way back through them some short some long , some verly wide some narrow so narrow in fact in one the semi truck and trailer in front of us came to a full stop so that so that the ones coming toward us could squeeze by with inches to spare between the trailers and the curving tunnel roof. Eventually we were above the tree line and looking at snow on the north facing slopes. Many more tunnels and switchbacks we were down to sea level one last tunnel (8km) under the ocean and a short bridge and we were on Stord where we booked into the Stord Hotell(not a misspelling) we went down stairs and had a bite to eat then sat in the piano lounge and enjoyed the live entertainment until it was time for bed
