In the shadow of mountains

Headed east early in the morning on hwy1 the air was a bit cooler in the shadow of the mountains but as the road twisted back and forth I was in and out of the shade about six times until finally the raised high enough. A very uneventful ride stopped in Field for a rest ,before  turning north on 93 towards Saskatchewan crossing  where. I refuelled (should of filled up in Field prices are super high in the park $ 2.429 a litre  for supreme)

I found out that as a veteran I don’t have to pay for a national park pass ,the only wild life I saw was a black bear  just after entering the park and some goats just before Nordegg After refueling it was east on hwy 11 to Springbrook and the flatlands

where I spent the rest of the day with Juli and Earl .

In the morning after several coffee I was off headed home on the 2A getting home about 1:15 . 7 days and just shy of  3000 km .it was a great trip but it’s always good to be home

A chill in the air

Leaving Vernon headed south east on hwy 6 it was already 23degrees out but as I passed Lumby and started a very twisty climb up and over down to needles ferry the air cooled off which was great after the last few days and at some points it almost felt cold but never lasted long and when breaking out of the shadows the sun didn’t take long to remind one of who really had the power ,caught up to a truck near the summit and he was nice enough to pull over and let me and others pass , I stopped for a stretch break at a quite rest stop and seen a sign I didn’t really believe ,then down to the ferry where I chatted with an older gentleman on a 2007 softtail classic he lives in Nakusp so we parted ways when the ferry docked he says he waits until the chaos of disembarking tourists passes and he has time for a leisurely ride home. Once I reached Nakusp it was on to hwy 23 and headed to the next ferry this one took a little longer to cross but it gave the ass a break once back on the road it didn’t take long to arrive in Revelstoke where I booked a room at the super 8 then went for a late lunch at the Village Idiot pub and grill it was tasty then I went and checked out the railroad museum, then it was back to the hotel and took a swim

Ps I saw a grizzly cross the road just north of Needles ferry

Cache creek to veron

The day started out great had an excellent breakfast at Cherly’s restaurant, so I was planning on taking the Logan lake road to Merrit but somehow I missed the turn off wasn’t paying enough attention,so I thought not a problem I’ll just turn at Spence’s bridge, what I didn’t know was that the Nicole river had flooded in last year or so and for 30km the road was under construction with way more gravel sections with a few asphalt sections so very slow going with that big cat squisher tyre on the rear but once pass the construction zone it was smooth riding .once reaching Merrit it was off to Princeton for a short visit with the Robin a couple cups of coffee later it was back on the bike and headed to Penticton where I headed north to Vernon with a stop just before Kelowna to stretch the legs I should of found a route around Kelowna lots of lights and stop and go traffic is not fun 40degrees I could feel the heat through my boot souls at every stop. Once pass there it was trip to Brian and Shiela’s where Brian made beer can burgers they were delicious.so with supper done Brian and I went for a boat (Grand Torino) ride we down a few country roads nd check out a few farms, it was a good visit with them I’m spending the night here

Chache Creek

Tuesday morning saw me and Rick making a pallet for his generator, chores done I was back on the bike a headed south on 97 had lunch at fort Alexandria and continued down the road ,and had to get gas in LacLaHasche but was soon turning eastward on hwy 24 towards Little Fort ,what an awesome rode for a motorcycle very winding but it was getting hot glad I was going down that last stretch (about 9 km of 8% grade) and not climbing up on a day like that. Then turning south on hwy5 it was off to Kamloops (40*c) and suddenly I was riding in a blast furnace the turning west on hwy1 it was off to  Chache Creek it was only 34 there been a long time since I’ve been on that stretch of road I’d forgotten how curvey it was made up for the heat

On Monday it was just a short ride from Mcbride to stoner got June and Rick’s verily early as usual was a very warm greeting . Helped With a chore or two then Rick made an excellent butter chicken for supper, afterwards he took me out on the river with the boat which was awesome then sat around the fire and chatted before bed.
