The Golden Tour

Today we did our tour of the Golden Circle.  We were picked up at the hotel for 8 hours of site seeing.  Our first stop was at a thermal greenhouse where I tried a bowl of fresh tomato soup and Jong was going to have a Caesar but opted for a beer.

We then went to see the Geysir.

Next was a view of the falls.  At the falls it was really windy.  They were to reach 80 km/hour.

At the end of this it had started to rain.  Our final site to visit was where the Teutonic plates had separated -  the European plate and the North American plate.  We will have to post these later as the pictures are on John's camera.  We were drenched by the end of this.

This trip was nice but would have been more enjoyable if it was nice outside.  Rain is forecast until we leave on Monday.

Iceland - here we come

The last day and a bit was spent relaxing. We found a hotel and stayed put.  Yippee.

This morning was a different story.  We were up at 6 am packing last minute items, had breakfast and was on the road for Frankfurt.  There were no major delays on the autobahn thus we arrived in Frankfurt extremely early.

We then spent 1/2 hour wasting time with the navigator's directions trying to find a gas station to fuel up the rental.  Once that was done, we returned the car and navigated the airport to check in.

We now await our boarding time.

We will arrive in Iceland 3:40 pm local time.

Rain Day Pictures

Good thing John is driving.

Rain day

waking up this morning the clouds had rolled in and it was raining , after another excellent breakfast put on by our hostess we were once again on the road head to Austria first ,again our views of the Alps were obscured by clouds we stopped for lunch at a gasthof (Kim says best one yet) where we ate wiener schnitzel then back on the road .To my surprise I noticed that the rain was turning to sleet checking the outside tempature it was only3 degrees but to our fortune we entered a tunnel but on exiting there was still a little sleet coming down but as we were heading down hill it quickly became rain again ,once reaching the German border we started hitting stau after stau which probably added about 2 hrs to our trip once reaching Hessdorf we decided to call it a day . After checking in we went out to find some supper we chose a Greek restaurant  Kim having a Hawaii pizza and me eating curry wurst with fries,.Ahh what a life breakfast in Italy ,lunch in Austria and supper in Germany .

The Little Things - September 22, 2015

Today we started to wind up the little things as we prepare to leave for Frankfurt, Germany tomorrow.

I mailed off the postcards I promised to send.

We then went in search of a flower to take to my grandparents memorial where I said goodbye.

Then we had a lunch and took pictures at the bottom of the hill leading to Stregna.  The first town is Postregna, the clearer higher up town is Stregna, and at the top of the mountain is the church bell tower of St. Paulo in Certineg.  This is where nonna and nonno is.

We finished with lunch and have spent the rest of the day relaxing.
