Smorgasbord

Today we started our return trip to Germany where we will spend time with Petra and Mirko and family for a few days.

The trip back was primarily uneventful as we covered the ground in the previous three days except we took a different tunnel and avoided Oslo.

We found ourselves going from below sea level to above tree line to below sea level again.  This journey of 12 hours saw us pass through 45 tunnels equalling a total of 61 km.  the first 20 tunnels occurred in the first 2 hours.  I was glad that one of the tunnels had been reopened even though work was still in progress as we did not have to traverse the nail biting sheep trail.

The pictures attached are some of the ones I missed on our drive out.  John liked the waterfall which we actually stopped to admire and take pictures of.  There was a kiosk there but the owner was just starting to open up when we left.

John liked the Homes with sod roofs.  There are also homes and hotels with sod roofs.

We then stopped to have a picnic lunch at the end of a fjord.

After lunch near Drammen we again passed by the large gear.  Again I was ready with the camera.  This will likely lead to a conversation of what ifs with Mark.

We were going to stop for the night around seven but there was no hotel to be found till we arrived at Halmstad, Sweden. Thus we called it a day at nine and then ate.

As promised Tony, John is trying a new beer every chance he gets.  He tried an Eriksberg tonight and really liked it.  This could be one for beer tasting.
